Inertization of lead by using blended cement pastes

Inertization ofleadnitratePb(NO3)2, arepresentativeofsolubleleadcompound,with five cementspastesbasedoneitherordinaryPortlandcement(OPC)orblendedPortlandcement with granulatedblast-furnaceslag(GBFS)ormetakaolin(MK)wasstudied.Variousmixeswere prepared byusingawater/solidratio(W/S)of0.28(byweight).TworatiosofPbions(1.0% and 2.0%ofthesolidbinder)wasusedbyaddingtothemixingwater.Hydrationcharacteristics of thedifferentcementpasteswereinvestigatedviatheexaminationofchemicallycombinedwater content, compressivestrength,X-raydiffractionanalysisandthermalanalysis(DTA/TGA).Leach- ing ofleadionsfromvarioushardenedcementpasteswasexamined.Theresultsshowedthatlead nitrate retardscementhydrationthroughtheformationofplumbatesaltCaPbO3.

Theobtained results ofleachingshowedahighdegreeofimmobilizationofPbionsinthevariouscementpastes.
