Recently milliontonsofcementisproducedinEgyptaccompaniedwithmilliontonsof CO2 emission whichcausesannuallynegativeimpactontheenvironment.Granulatedblastfurnace slag andsilicafumeareproducedasby-productfromironandchemicalindustrieswithlimitedrecy- cling facility.Thispaperrepresentsanexperimentalstudyaimedtosafeferrosiliconalloyofslag and silicafumetoproducecementlessbindingmaterialusingbothofSodiumHydroxideandwater glass liquid(SodiumSilicate)asalkalineactivator.Experimentalprogramwasdesignedtostudy silica/slag ratio,percentageofalkaliactivator,water/bindingratio,incorporationofsuperplasticiz- er, andcuringconditiononthepropertiesoftheproducedbindingmaterial.Compressivestrength and mineralogicalanalysiswereconductedonthepolymericbindingmaterialtoassestheeffective- ness ofthemainvariables.Thetestsweredividedintotwostages;inthefirststagecompressive strength wasconductedforallmixeswhileX-ray,microscopicscan(SEM),andinfraredanalysis (IR) werecarriedoutforthemostpronouncedpromisingmixes.Theresultsshowedthatratioof 25% ofsilica/slagisthemosteffectiveratioand5%ofeachofSodiumHydroxideandSodiumSil- icate wastheoptimumpercentageofthealkalineactivator.Additionallytheuseofsuperplasticizer is essentialasitpositivelyreducesthemixingwaterandmaintainsthebindingmaterialwithaccept- able workability.
