Response of some onion varieties to Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera : Thripidae)‎ in Jordan valley

The experiment was conducted during 1997-1998 in Deir-AUa station in the Central Jordan Valley to study the response of some onion varieties to Thrips tabaci Lind.

(Thysanoptera:Thripidae).

The varieties used were Texas Early Grano 502, Geiza 20, RS 209, Rio Colorado hybrid E.001 and Aragon.

Result indicated that onion varieties tested showed no resistance to this thrips.

But Rio Colorado hybrid E.001 and Texas Early Grano 502 were less preferable to thrips infestation.

Aragon and RS 209 were highly preferable.

Thrips larvae approached the first peak in the season at the end of December on all varieties and continued increasing and fluctuating in numbers from February up to harvest in end of April and mid May.
