Ownership structure and firm performance in the Jordanian capital market

This paper examines the issue of the ownership structure of non-financial companies which are listed on the Jordanian stock exchange.

In other words, this paper tries to provide answers to the following two questions: 1- What is the ownership structure of listed Jordanian companies? Are they relatively more (or less) concentrated in terms of their ownership structure? 2- What is the effect of ownership structure on firm performance? Is the relationship between ownership and performance (firm value) in Jordan in line with the available international evidence? The empirical findings suggest that Jordanian companies are relatively less concentrated in their ownership structure.

Moreover, while more work is needed to understand the determinants of companies' performance, the ownership structure of Jordanian listed companies does not affect their performance.
