Rangeland reserves effect on rehabilitation and herbage production in Southern Jordan

Hi is study was concluded lo determine the herbage production of five rangeland reserve in southern Jordati.

Plant samples wore taken for three years 1997, 1998, and 1999 from unprotected and protected rangclmid areas.

Higher differences in the amount of rainfall were cxicetcd between locations and seasons.

The results show that there are significant differences in fresh and dry weight of herbage between locations and years.

Higher percentages of shrubs were observed compared with grasses and herbs during the drought years.

Protected rangelands produced 4 times greater of dr)' weight of vegetation than those of unprotected area.

Rehabilitation of degraded area can be achieved by management of controlled grazing.
