Urban cities have formed a phenomenon in modern and contemporary Arabic poetry.

Arab poets differ in handling and illustrating the political, social and cultural effects of this phenomenon.

The first group of poets glorify urban cities and they show their patriotism through praising.

The other group, on the other hand, consider urban cities as a symbol of corruption, injustice and backwardness.

These poets reveal their acrimonious through satire and reproaching.

However, the most common attitude of contemporary Arab poets is a combination of praise and satire.

They praise their cities because of love and belonging, but they satirize them since they represent social and political corruption and because they considered them one of the facets of colonialism.

There is no doubt that the ideologies of the Arab poets were the main factor in determining their attitudes towards urban cities, especially, those related to left-wing and revolutionary ideologies.
