Micellar catalytic effect of triton-X-100 on the oxidation of N,N-dimethylaniline by hexacyanoferrate (III)‎

The kinetic oxidation of N,N~ dimethylaniline ( DMA) by hexacyano-ferrate (III) (Fe(CN)6 3‘) has been studied in aqueous and micellar solutions of Triton-X-100 (TX-100 ) in the presence of various electrolytes, using spectrophotometer at 420 nm.

The present data showed that the reaction is first - order with respect to [DMA]t and Fe(CN)63 .

Also <&0bS have constant values within concentration 0.03 - 0.10 M of NaOH.

The rate enhancement of the reaction in the presence of micelles has been discussed in term of pseudo-phase model of the kinetics .

The dependence of the reaction rate on the nature of the salt cation has also been discussed.
