Karan island is a coral reef island composed mainly of calcite and aragonite.

The island is covered with medium to coarse-grained skeletal and non-skeletal carbonate sands of marine origin and very rare windblown clay particles.

These sediments are characterized by unimodal distribution and well sorted to poorly sorted.

Mineralogical and chemical composition of the Karan island sediments proved that their origin is from the underlying coral reefs.
