The relations between Saladin and the Byzantines

This study is an attempt to shed light on an important aspect of the relations between the Muslims and the Byzantines during the period of the Crusades in general, and between Saladin and the Byzantine Emperors in particular.

After 1183, the balance of power in the Latin East shifted towards the Muslim side, and after consolidating his power over Egypt, Syria.and Mosul, began to concentrate his efforts against the Franks.

In order to secure victory against the Latin Kingdom, Saladin took every necessary measure including making alliance with the Byzantines who were threatened by the same enemy - the Franks.

In this study the relations between Saladin and the Byzantines, before and during the third crusade were discussed.

In addition an analysis was made regarding the many embassies sent by both parties and finally, the results of this alliance were pointed out.
