Purpose: Reporting the problems.

early results and complications of Total Hip Arthroplasty following Austin Moore Hemiarthroplasty.

Methods: Fifteen cases with failed Austin Moore operation, Southern approach was used in 6 cases and Hardinge in 9.

In 6 cases trochanteric osteotomy was necessary.

Bone defects were evaluated and filled with cement or ' needed.

The Total H؛p prosthesis was inserted.

The Approach used did not affect the duration of operation.

Dislocation of the prosthesis was difficult in 4 cases (26.7%) Removal of the prosthesis was easy in 6 case (40%), difficult in 5(33.3%) and evidently difficult in 4(26.7%).

Wound complications were seen in 3 cases.

Results: At the end of follow up one case (6.7%) had an excellent result, 7(46.7%) good, 5(33.3%) fair and 2(13.3%) poor.

Conclusions: Pain and difficult mobility are the main indication- for Total Hip Arthroplasty replacing Austin Moore Hemiarthroplasty.

After operation there was a definite improvement of the Patient's clinical condition.

Dislocation of the Austin Moore prothesis during operation was easier through posterior approach.

Shortening can be well corrected by this operation.
