الملخص الإنجليزي

To assess the likely importance of cigarette smoking on Ventilatory lung function , a descriptive case-control study was carried out inclined to study the effect of allergic symptoms , which presented with smoking , between (2008-2009) , at area located in Khartoum state (about 45 km away from Khartoum, Omdawnban areas).

Survey was done to recognize smoker's community, 400 smokers participated from a public determinant places, a modified airway reactivity questionnaire (ARS) as score was used to subserve the survey, recognize the relationship between cigarette smoking and allergic symptoms which revealed a significant relationship between cigarette smoking and respiratory symptoms with allergic symptoms.

Survey was satisfaction to adopt the Dutch Hypothesis which refered : (The atopic disease underlies the development of chronic airflow obstruction).

A comparison population consisting of 850 person in study area.

A modified British Medical Research council questionnaire on chronic bronchitis was used.

In addition information on social, respiratory, smoking histories were obtained and spirometry and oximetry tests were performed on study population .

A modified Harvard Medical School questionnaire as self assessment of cigarette smoking health condition was used with the test.

The risk estimated between case and control (smokers / non-smokers) as odds Ratio it was 1.3.

The likelihood of exposure to allergens (Risk Factor of allergic disease) especially heat and cold exposure was greater for cases (smokers) than for the controls (non-smokers) with statistically significant.

The measurement of the lung function tests with the saturation of oxygen in arterial blood showed a significant drop in Sao2 % and FVC, FEV1, FEV1 / FVC, PEF when compared to predicted value and the control (P < 0.05) .

The drop increased with smoking duration increased with aging .

The obstruction pattern in smokers (case) started in age 32 was 18 %, Restrictive pattern was 71 % (one from five smokers develops Airflow obstruction).

The results of this study don't signify the direct effect of allergic disease on airflow obstruction .

Application of cigarette smoking quit early, especially in allergic smokers, reduce the prevalence of respiratory symptoms as well as restriction as respiratory impairment.
