الملخص الإنجليزي

Khor Arbaat lies at 35 km.

NW port Sudan Harbour confined between longitudes 36º and 37º 15′ E and latitudes 19º and 20º N which is the main source of water supply to the town .

The study area characterized by arid and semi- arid climate with average precipitation not exceeding 100 mm / year .

The khor Arbaat valley is small creek , structurally controlled surrounded by the pre - Cambrian rocks .

It is the main channel filled with Quaternary alluvial sediments (water- bearing strata).

The study evaluation the existing surface and groundwater potentials .The total annual precipitation in the area is about 42 million cubic meters , part of this amount is evaporated which estimated to be about 3285 mm / year , the remain goes as runoff .

The total amount of surface water provided the town is estimated to be 34, 000 cubic meters per day .

The water - bearing strata (alluvial aquifer) is of moderate Transmissivity (41.58 -51.5 m2 / h) , and the water level fluctuation between wet and dry season is about 0.71 m , with an average hydraulic gradient of about 0.0063 .

Based on the hydraulic properties , area of the valley (12km2) , effective porosity (20 %) and saturated thickness (10 m) , the storage capacity is estimated to be about 24 million cubic meters , and the annual recharge by flood is estimated to be about 8.5 million cubic meters .

The annual base flow at the Upper gate is about 55099.699 cubic meters.

The total annual water pumped to the town is about 5.84 million cubic meters, and that discharge to the sea is about 1278960 cubic meters annually.

The present port Sudan demand is 80,000 cubic meters per day , while the total amount of water supply is of about 55,000 cubic meters per day .

This deficiency can be met by surface water from khor Mog earth dam (10,000 m3 / d) , desalinization plant which may provide the town by 10,000 m3 / d , instead of 5,000 m3 / d, and about 20000 m3 / d, can pump from the groundwater instead of 16000 m3 / d.

Transfer of water from the River Nile is strongly recommended.
