الملخص الإنجليزي

The objective of this study is to investigate the potentiality of multispectral remotely sensed data for detecting the geological features of the study area (lithological units, faults, folds and lineaments).

The study uses geochemical analysis and remote sensing techniques to understand the environments of the rock units.

The study area is situated in southern Blue Nile state, Qeissan district.

It is bounded by latitudes 10º 45 َ–10º 50 َ N, longitudes 34 º 36 َ–34º 40 َ E, on the Sudanese- Ethiopian border, some 170 km South of Damazin town.

Geologically, the area is High-grade gneisses and low-grade volcano-sedimentary rocks underlie the Qeissan area.

The quartz veins occur as discontinuous bodies, pinching and swelling within the bedding planes of the meta-sedimentary rocks.

In order to achieve the objectives of this study, image enhancement and classification techniques were applied to both satellite image and the image map of the study area.

Digital filter techniques (directional and non-directional filter) were applied in this study to edges and lineaments enhancement where a new structural lineament map was generated using Landsat ETM filter image.

Geochemical study of the selected chip samples from the study area has been recorded and located by GPS for gold and some trace elements to determine the geotectonic setting and geochemical affinities.

The samples were projected on the structure map and the image of the area.

The study concluded that the false color composites Landsat ETM images (bands7 ; 4 ; 1 and 5 ; 4 ; 3) was found to be the most-suitable composites for identify major geological units.

Filter 45º was found to be more suitable for indication the structure and quartz veins in the study area.
