Oxygen diffusion in zirconia during reaction of zircaloy-4 with steam from 1173 to 1773 k

The effective diffusion coefficient of oxygen into Zircaloy-4 ox- ide layer at temperature range from 1173 to 1773 K were determined by ap- plying a recent experimental kinetic data to an analytical expression.

The re- action of the Zircaloy-4 in steam at elevated temperatures involves the growth of discrete layers of oxide depending on the reaction medium temperature, which lead to the development of a diffusion coefficient equation to character- ize the diffusion at each temperature interval.

The results of the proposed dif- fusion coefficient equation in this study have been compared with experi- mental data and show a good agreement.
