Tetrachlorotin adducts of some schiff-base derivatives

Schiff-base ligands (L) , prepared from benzaldehyde, salicylaldeyde and 2-or 3-annunopyridmes or 3-aminoquinoline, have been reacted with tetrachiorotin in 1:1 molar ratio to yield adducts of the general formula SnCl^.L .

The adducts obtained were characterized physicochemically and spectroscopically.

With few exceptions, the Schiff-base seems to coordinate with tin metal in a bidentate fashion via the most reactive bonding sites ; the central inline ( azomethine) - nitrogen and the oxygen atom in position-2 of the phenyl ring or the pyridine - nitrogen ( where applicable ) , to give adducts with tin of hexa - coordination number .

All the SnCl^ adducts produced showed no conductivity in both solvents ethanol and DMF indicating the non-ionic structures [SnCl^.L], Explanation for the results obtained have been given and discussed.
