A Jahn-Teller (JT) model is adopted for the excited 3T2 vibronic state of the V3+ ion to interpret the experimental results of the various components of the zero phonon line (ZPL) from GaP:V:S samples un¬der uniaxial stress in a photoluminescence experiment.

The theoretical results confirm the previous studies of the optical absorption bands that the weakest ZPL observed in the bands of the system is attributed to the 3T2→3A2 interband transitions of the V3+ ion.

The excited 3T2 vibronic state exhibits a very strong T®e dynamic Jahn-Teller effect.

This is reflected by the values of the parameters which measure the strength of this effect.
