Determination of pore size characteristics of uniform granular soils from their grain size distributions

To estimate the pore size characteristics of granular soils, it is necessary to relate them to measurable physical properties obtained from standard laboratory tests such as the grain size distribution.

The pore size and grain size distribution functions are related to each other by median values and standard deviations obtained from a large experimental program performed on samples collected from several localities in Saudi Arabia and abroad using a 60000 psi (413 600 kPa) porosimeter.

Obtained relationships permit quick and practical estimates of pore size characteristics from grain size distributions.

An attempt is made by obtaining such estimates for uniform granular soils in their limiting loosest and densest states.
