Synthesis and substitution reactions of palladium (II)‎ complexes with 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline

The complexes cis-[?d (NN)C12J [NN=2,2-bipyridme (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)] have been prepared via a new method by reacting the benzonitrile complex cis-[Pd(PhCN)2C 12] with the ligands.

This method gives the products rapidly, in a pure state and in high yields.

Hie substitution reactions of cw-[Pd(NN)CI 2] (NN = bpy and phen) with Br and I’ have been attempted.

The complexes cis- [Pd(NN)X2] (NN- bpy or phen; X = Br, I) have been isolated.

The products have been characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, and infrared, electronic absorption and lH NMR spectra.
