Synthesis, characterization of thio, oxo-ester and the study of their mesomorphic properties

Series of thioester (n = 1-10, 12) and aother five compounds ofthio and oxoester, have been synthesized and identified by IR , P1PH-NMR and Mass spectroscopy.

The mesomorphic properties of these compounds were investigated via differential scanning calorimetry and polarizing optical microscopy , and discussed the effect of the length of thio alkyl and the comparison between the effect of Oxygen and sulfure atoms on the mesomorphic properties .All the compounds in RRnRSS series exhibit nematic phase as will as smectic phase in RR10RSS and R12SS .

The compounds RR1RSS, RR8ROO, RR8RSSPh and RR8RSOPh don’t show any mesomorphic properties .
