الملخص الإنجليزي
This study aimed at identifying the effect of an instructional program based on functional grammar on the English foreign language students' achievement in grammar and communicative skills of the secondary stage in Jordan. The sample of the study was chosen purposefully from the eleventh grade at Al – Rashad private school in Ma'daba.
The study sample was taken from two classes.
The control group and the experimental group, each group consisted of (30) students. In order to achieve the study objectives, the researcher designed a proposed instructional program based on functional grammar in order to identify its effect on the English foreign language students' achievement in grammar and communicative skills of the secondary stage in Jordan. Also, the researcher designed two instruments a test in grammar achievement, and a test in communicative skills. Validity of the instruments were confirmed by five experts in the field of English curricula and methods of TEFL who were asked to examine the instruments and give their opinions and suggestions.
To examine the reliability of the instruments test retest method was administrated to a pilot sample of (20) selected students from the study population.
Pearson correlation was used, and its value was (0.87), which is acceptable because it is higher than the acceptable value (0.60). The study reached the following results: 1.
There is statistically significant difference at (α 0.05) in EFL students' achievement in grammar of the secondary stage between the control group and the experimental group in Jordan ascribed to the proposed instructional program based on functional grammar, and the conventional instruction. 2.
There is statistically significant difference at (α 0.05) in EFL students' communicative skills of the secondary stage between the control group and the experimental group in Jordan ascribed to the proposed instructional program based on functional grammar, and the conventional instruction. in light of these results, the study recommends the following: - All classes of grammar should be taught using a communicative framework in Jordanian Schools. - Providing training courses for EFL teachers for enhancing their grammar and communicative skills. - Exploring different modes, format of evaluating students; grammar and communicative skills.
