This study aimed to investigate the relationship between learning styles and reading comprehension of the upper basic stage students in Jordan, by answering the following study questions: (1) What are the learning styles used by the upper basic stage students? (2) Are there any significant differences at the level (α = 0.05) on the reading comprehension related to the learning styles used by the upper basic stage students? In order to achieve the aim of the study, a reading comprehension test was developed as well as a translated version of Felder's and Soloman's learning Styles inventory, which was translated into Arabic to suit the students' needs.

The validity of the instruments was ensured in this study by consulting a jury of eleven EFL experts on the appropriateness of the test and the inventory.

Reliability was assured by piloting the two instruments on a sample of thirty tenth grade students out of the study sample, and then the correlation coefficient of the test results was calculated using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, which showed to be acceptable for this study.

The participants of the study consisted of 300 tenth grade male and female students, randomly chosen from four public schools in Jerash First Directorate of Education in Jordan, during the 2007/2008 academic year.

The data collected was analyzed by using one way ANOVA test.

The results showed that the answers to the questions were as follows: There were eight learning styles ordered according to the students' preferable learning styles as follows: 1.

Sensing type was the most used learning style.

Sequential Learning Style.

3.

Reflective Learning Style.

4.

Visual Learning Style.

5.

Verbal learning Style.

6.

Active learning Style.

7.

Global learning Style.

8.

Intuitive learning Style.

According to the statistical analysis, there were no significant differences on the reading comprehension of the upper basic stage students related to the learning styles.

Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommends that other researchers research on each one of the available learning styles and its relation with reading comprehension, in addition, teachers ought to focus on teaching strategies that encourage students to adopt the learning styles associated with reading comprehension.
