Management of mucocoeles of the paranasal sinuses : the experience of king fahad hospital in Saudia Arabia

Objective: To compare the outcome of endoscopic management of mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses with the conventional one in relation to well recognized institute in other parts of the world.

Design: Retrospective review of the charts of all patients treated surgically for mucoceles of the paranasal sinuses from the year 2000 to 2006 Subjects: Eleven patients (aged from 6-59 years) with mucoceles of paranasal sinuses were included ,analysis of demographics, ymptoms ,etiology ,pre and post operative CT findings, surgical access and outcomes.

Results: External approach was done in four patients while seven patients had endoscopic approach ,infection followed by trauma were the common causes of mucoceles.

Two revision surgery ,the outcome of all patients was satisfactory Conclusion: the endoscopic treatment has marked lower morbidity than the external approach ,new bone formation will substitute the resorbed one short after the endoscopic management.
