Occupational posture as a risk factor of low back pain among dentists

Biomechanical modelling has demonstrated that any posture that deviates from anatomically neutral position will be considered as a physical stressor to the back.

The aim of this study took to evaluate occupational posture as a risk factor of low back pain among dentists.

This work was conducted on SO dentists (Group 1) collected from the military hospitals and a control group of 30 subjects of other sedentary work profession (Group 11).

Both groups were subjected to questionnaire, observation for job analysis, medical examination, and laboratory investigations to exclude causes of back pain other than mechanical.

The results were tabulated and discussed.

60% of dentists were working in forward flexed laterally rotated position for half or more of the work time.

68.47 % of them were complaining of back pain compared with only 30% of the control.

There was a highly significant correlation between occupational posture and back pain in dentists.
