Brucelia melitensis : a rare cause of liver absces

Human brucellosis is endemic in Jordan with hepatic involvement usually in the form of a mild elevation of transaminases, occasionally to a level suggesting viral hepatitis.

Hepatic abscesses and chronic suppurative lesions of the liver and spleen can be caused by Brucella melitensis but are more commonly associated with Brucella suis infection.

We report a case of liver abscess in a human caused by Brucella melitensis.

The clinical features and aspects of management are discussed.
