الملخص EN

Twenty six primary lower limb amputees were studied to asses their activity levels during the first six months after amputation.

The patients were assessed by way of a electronic step counter fitted to the prosthesis.

The patients were assessed on admission, discharge, one month, three months and 6 months after discharge.

A peer group was also studied using the step counter and the results compared.

Activity was also measured using Day's Activity score1 and a mobility score.

Walking aids used were also recorded as was the mental status.

The patients were found to be less active than their peers, to become markedly less active following the amputation and use more walking aids.

The assessment scores used correlated with the step counter results and are commended as being easy to use and to give an indication of the overall activity of this group of patients.
