الملخص EN

From August, 1990 to September, 1992, 242 cases of post-poliomyelitis paralysis were studied and treated.

Out of these patients, 156 were males and 86 were females.

The age ranged from 1 to 30 years.

These cases were studied and tabulated under the headings of age distribution, limbs affected, parts of body affected, gradation of muscle power, duration of disease treatment received by the patients, pattern of disability and treatment given to the patients.

Some interesting observations have been made and conclusions drawn.

The ultimate objective shows that the results of post-poliomyelitis paralysis depends on early management and prevention of resultant deformity.

Grading of muscle power also shows the stages of recovery and improvements in grades of power with the treatment showing good prognosis.

The use of orthosis in childhood is beneficial to enable the child to walk.

Results of muscle transfer are good in children between 3-6 years of age but bone operation should be delayed until 12 years of age.
