The prediction from the outset of the Optimal '/’/س'اااا-ine Dose (OTD) in primary hypothyroidism would be use-fill in decreasing thefrequency (>f outpatient visits and ex-pensive tliyroidfiinction tests.

Fifty six hypothyroid patients »٠ ere followed for one year to stud}' four clinical parant-eters and assess (heir value in predicting OTD.

'{'lie best correlation in both sexes was shown between OTD and pretreatment TSH.

//; lion-pregnant females only there was also « correlation with bodyweight.

It was concluded that pretreatment TSH in both sexes, and female body H eight were (he best clinical indices for predicting the op-timal daily maintenance dose ofthyroxine in patients with primary hypothyroidism.
