الملخص EN

This study included 400 women in their childbearing years.

One hundred of these were not using any contraception.

One hundred were using combined E/P oral contraceptive pills.

One hundred were on injectible contaceptive (50 on NetEn and 50 on DMPA).

The last group of 100 had previously used DMPA and stopped since at least 3 years.

The were all subjected to cervical cytology and colposcopy for hormonal influence, inflammation and neoplastic potential .

It was found that the type of hormonal contraceptive used influenced the pattern of smear obtained: use of injectables resulted in a predominantly IMC pattern, OCP resulted in a mixed cell variety and previous use of injectable increased the incidence of atrophic smears.

OCP produced cervical ectopy.

Inflammatory responses did not differ and were not increased.

Dysplasia and neoplasia were not detected.
