الملخص الإنجليزي

ABO and Rhesus blood groups vary from one population to another.

This study was aimed to have information on the distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups in Mutah University Students and their relationship with anemia .

Blood groups and Rh factor determination was carried out by the antigen-antibody agglutination test encompassed 556 students.

166 of students sample were males and 390 were females.

Complete blood count (CBC) was performed and blood groups was made for all students.

The test results showed that percentages of various groups among students sample were blood group O (41%) > blood group A (30%) > blood group B (20%) > blood group AB (9%).

The distribution pattern of Rh factor was 83.8% for Rh positive and 16.2% for Rh negative.

This study concludes to confirm that blood group O was the most common of the ABO blood group system in the students sample, AB blood group was quite rare and Rh positive was more common than Rh negative phenotype.

The prevalence of anemia were highest in females (28.7%) than in males (15.7%) .The incidence of anemia was found to be highest in blood group O (37.7%) which included 48% Mild and 0.4% Moderate, followed by group B (32.6%), with 53% suffering from Mild and 3.5% suffering from moderate , group A (21%), with 35% suffering from Mild and 3% was Moderate , and group AB (8.7 %) which included 44% Mild and 4% Moderate.

There was a significant correlation between anemia and gender in the present study (p = 0.001), and also a significant correlation between anemic students (males and females) and their blood groups (p = 0.014) .
