New presentation of laryngeal tuberculosis

Laryngeal tuberculosis continues to excist inspite of extensive tuberculous eradication campaings.

We present 14 cases of laryngeal T.B.

Seen in Assiut University Hospital between 2000 and 2002.

It is clear from this study that the localization of laryngeal T.B.

has changed as opposed to the classic reports.

The lesions tended to be localized in the anterior portion of the larynx, in contrast to the classical descriptions of infected sputum posterior commissure lesions.

The presentation of the disease now resembles that of laryngeal carcinoma, with a relatively short history of progressive hoarseness.
