A new technique for solving the scattering of a plane eleetromagnetie wave by an arbitrary cross sectional cylinder is presented.

The technique is based on solving the problem of multiple scattering of a plane wave by N thin strips as a boundary value problem.

Then, by simulating the boundary of the cylinder by a sufficient number of strips, the total scattered field can be calculated.

The technique is applied first to some of the known cylindrical geometries to check its acuuracy, which is found highly accurate.

The technique is also useful for calculating the scattered field of large cylinders, of known cross sectional area, where the exact solution is not rapidly convergent.

Moreover, it has an advantage over other numerical and simulation techniques for problems involve sharp edges where this technique automatically accounts for the edge diffraction.
