Plasma urate level in hypertensive Sudanese patients in Khartoum State

-Objectives Hypertension is defined as systolic blood pressure more than 140 mm Hg and/or diastolic blood pressure more than 90 mmHg.

A cross-sectional study was conducted during the period from august 2011 to march 2012 to evaluate the possible alteration in plasma uric acid in hypertensive Sudanese patients.

Methods the study included 55 hypertensive patients and 30 apparently healthy (non-hypertensive) as a control group.

Blood samples were collected from different hospitals in Khartoum state (Albogaa, Khartoum north teaching hospital and Khartoum teaching hospital).

The plasma uric acid level was measured by using uricase enzymatic reagents and semi-automated spectrophotometer from Bio System Company.

Conclusion From the results of this study, it is concluded that hypertension is associated with increasing level of plasma uric acid.
