الملخص الإنجليزي

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of a simulation-based instructional program on improving the oral communication and the creative writing skills for Jordanian EFL students.

The study attempted to answer the following questions: 1- What is the effect of the simulation-based instructional program on the oral communication skills of EFL tenth grade students in Jordan? 2.

What is the effect of the SBIP on the creative writing skills of EFL tenth grade students in Jordan? The subjects of the study consisted of 50 tenth grade students, who were studying at Mutah University Model School during the year 2011/2012.

The school was purposefully selected on convenient ground.

The subjects of the study were divided into two sections.

Section A (N=25) served as the control group and was taught by the traditional method of teaching, while section B (N=25) served as the experimental group and was taught by the SBIP.

Two scales were developed; the first was a scale for measuring the oral-communication skills ,and the other one was a scale for measuring the creative writing skills.

Validity and reliability were established for both measures as appropriate.

One-Way ANCOVA was used to detect any significant differences on both scales between the groups of the study due to the treatment.

The results of the study indicated that the mean score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group on the oral communication scale at the level of α ≤ 0.05.

Also, the experimented group outperformed the control group on the creative writing skills scale.

The study concluded that curricular designers and EFL teachers are invited to try out simulation activities in their classrooms for their power of motivation and interest.

Further research also is invited to replicate the experiment with other language skills and at other different level of EFL education.
