الملخص الإنجليزي
-This thesis addresses democratic transitions in Spain and Portugal.
It elaborates on the different factors that shaped this transition by analyzing the internal and external factors that pushed towards democratization.
Spain and Portugal are two European countries which integrated the European Economic Community in the eighties.
The process of their integration within the European community was not an easy one.
They had to fulfill various political, economic, and social requirements if they were to join the community.
They actually underwent sweeping reforms that were dictated to them by their neighbors.
Among these, we find political, social and economic upgrade of their society.
They had to democratize their respective countries by allowing free elections and liberating their economic fabric.
To achieve such an objective, the Spanish and Portuguese had to fight dictatorships to move from economically and politically underdeveloped nations to democracies.
They had, then, to go through democratic transitions.
Among the external factors is the EEC that had a role in the consolidation of democracy through political and economic incentives.
