الملخص الإنجليزي

his project studies a Moroccan folk dance, Ahwash, in two different settings, as a communal celebration and as a stage show.

The project falls into seven parts.

The first part examines the methodology followed in this study; that is, the procedures used in collecting information, conducting the research and analyzing the data.

The second part surveys the literature of folkloristics in Europe and Morocco, and the place that this study occupies within this literature.

The third part is concerned with contextualizing Ahwash into its original geographical, social, cultural and economic frameworks.

The fourth part reviews the general characteristics and transformations of the Amazighi culture to which Ahwash belongs.

The fifth part is an interpretive anthropological analysis of the dance.

It also examines all the different aspects of the dance from a semiotic and structuralist perspectives.

The sixth part is a study of the dance as a stage show.

It is divided into three sub-sections.

The first deals with tourism and its effect on the Moroccan economy and culture.

The second focuses on the impacts of tourism on Ahwash through the example of the Chez Ali ben Fellah hotel in Marrakesh.

The third deals with my personal attempt to market the dance in a cultural site.

It is a section that emphasizes the cultural side of the dance.

The seventh part concludes the project and provides some recommendations to maintain the cultural aspects of the dance while used in tourism.
