الملخص الإنجليزي

This paper is a qualitative evaluation of two awareness campaigns that the National Office of Drinking Water held in two primary schools in the city of Fez.

It is based on three interviews I conducted with a sample of pupils at the sixth grade level who attended the campaign and their families.

The study revealed that the campaign has reached its three major objectives which are : 1- Informing children and young people about water scarcity and pollution, besides the cleaning processes, distribution and pricing systems of drinking water in Morocco.

2- Sensitizing children and young people to feel concerned about protecting water from waste.

3- Involving children and young people in sensitizing their parents and surroundings to protect water from waste.

The reasons why the ONEP’s campaigns seem to have achieved their goals are both due to external and internal factors.

The external factors consist both of the children and young people’s predisposition to become involved in protecting water and raising other people’s awareness before attending the campaign and their surrounding’s encouragement when they attempted to raise their awareness after the campaign.

The internal reasons are related both to the form and content of the campaign.

The campaigner’s enthusiasm and skills in addition to the brochures he distributed to the target audiences at the end of the campaign helped them remember most the information they were given, and transmit them to their surrounding.

Also the content of the campaign reinforced the children and young people’s acquired knowledge through their religious beliefs, the ONEP’s TV ads, their school curriculum and their parents’ advice.

A campaign for children and young people may, therefore, need to be carefully designed and implemented in such ways to motivate the target audiences and their surrounding.

For that, it may need to reinforce the targets’ beliefs and acquired knowledge first, and then, be implemented by enthusiastic and competent campaigners.
