الملخص الإنجليزي

n the 1930’s, Moroccan society witnessed a structural change wherein women began breaking the barriers of the private sphere and going out to work.

Moroccan women’s access to work was mainly motivated by economic need, since at that time the majority of Moroccans were living in a bad economic situation, due mainly to French colonization and the high rate of unemployment.

In this project, I investigate whether Moroccan working women have been able to achieve their economic independence using the case study of working women in Casablanca.

Additionally, I also investigate whether these women’s access to work has brought about a change in their situations at home, especially as far as housework is concerned.

My investigation was based on the interview guide question technique.

I interviewed women belonging to different socio-economic categories.

My hypothesis was that these working women were not economically independent, and that their access to work had not enabled them to change their situations at home.

My investigation shows that the interviewees were not economically independent, since they did not manage to meet all the family expenses.

The investigation also revealed that the interviewees’ access to work had not changed their situations at home.

These women were still expected to do the housework without being helped by men, though, at least at the level of perception, many of the interviewees stressed that men should share housework with women, especially when the latter were working
