الملخص الإنجليزي

One hundred sixty six patients with different skin infections (steroids acne, Seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, folliculitis and psoriasis) were included in this study, who attended Al-Kadhumyia teaching hospital / Dermatology department, from the 30th of October 2010 to the 1st of April 2011.

One hundred eight (108) were males and fifty eight (58) were females, with the mean age of 25.72±14.65 years (ranging between 3months to 70 years old).

The diagnosis was established by clinical examination done by consultant Dermatologist.

Control included 85 apparently healthy individuals were randomly selected from different school in Al-Aubaidi city (47 males and 38 females) with a mean age of 26.83±15.68 years (ranging between 1-70 years old).

Both groups were investigated for Malassezia spp., cultivation and identification of Malassezia spp.

included Sabouraudsَ dextrose agar with and without olive oil.

1TThe result obtained were:- 1T Malassezia furfur had a high percentage overall Malassezia spp.

with steroids acne patients (15.10%) and folliculitis and (20.0%), M.

pachydermatis and M.

obtusa had a high percentage overall Malassezia spp.

with seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis patients (12.90%) and (15.80%), respectively.

globosa had a high percentage overall Malassezia spp.

with psoriatic patients (17.04%).

1T According to the gender, males had higher infection rate than females among other dermatological problems.

1T Steroids acne patients with age group of (11-20) years had a high percentage among others (74.0%), seborrheic dermatitis patients with age group of (31-40) years had a high percentage among others(25.80%), atopic dermatitis patients with age group of (<10) years had a high percentage among others (73.30%), folliculitis patients with age group of (21-30) years had a high percentage among others (50.0%) and psoriatic Summary I patients with age group of (41-50) years had a high percentage among others (56.60%).

1T Dry skinned patients revealed atopic dermatitis, while oily skinned patients revealed other dermatological problems.

1T Face lesion had a high percentage among other sites in steroids acne patients (87.70%), head and ear lesions had high percentage among other sites in seborrheic dermatitis patients (32.20%), face and abdominal lesions had high percentage among other sites in atopic dermatitis patients (26.30%), head lesion had a high percentage among other sites in folliculitis patients (45.0%) and lower limbs lesion had a high percentage among other sites in psoriatic patients (47.80%).
