Postprandial level of triglyceride in obese patients in relation to high sensitivity C-reactive protein in Iraqi postmenopausal women

This study was conducted to determine the impact of obesity in postmenopausal Iraqi women on the level of triglycerides (fasting and two hours and four hours postprandial), high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and anthropometric measurement (Body Mass Index, Age, Waist Hip Ratio and Waist Height Ratio).

The collection of samples was conducted during the period November 2011 to May 2012.

Out of Fifty female patients suffering from obesity disease taken out people attended the consulting clinic in: Al- Kindy Teaching Hospital and Obesity Research and Treatment unit Al-Kindy College of Medicine/University of Baghdad.

The results were as follows: 1.

Fifty postmenopausal obese women were chosen and another ten nonobese control to compare them on several parameters were Triglyceride (TG), high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), body mass index (BMI), waist hip ratio (WHR), waist height ratio (WHtR) and neck circumference (NC), to study every parameter on the extent and its relationship to obesity.

The results showed there were significant (p <0.05) differences between parameters of the obesity patients and the control.

Thirty-seven patients with mean years of age ≥ 50 years the TGs, hs- CRP, and anthropometric measurement were higher than thirteen patients with age < 50.

TGs (pre-prandial and postprandial), hs-CRP and anthropometric measurement are rising in Seventeen of postmenopausal obese women (hs-crp > 6) while in Thirteen (hs-crp 3-6) and in Twenty of postmenopausal obese women (hs-crp <3) were lower.

4.TGs, hs-CRP and anthropometric measurement were strongly correlated in Eight of postmenopausal obese women (BMI ≥ 50) than in Nine (BMI (41-49)) and in Thirty-three (BMI (30-40)) of postmenopausal women obesity as moderate and mild BMI groups respectively.

TGs, hs-CRP, and anthropometric measurement were higher in Thirtysix of apple shape than the fourteen of pear shape in postmenopausal obese women.

TGs, hs-CRP and anthropometric measurement were higher in Fortyfive of WHtR ≥ 0.50 than five of WHtR < 0.50 groups in postmenopausal obese women.

From these results it can be concluded that the obesity is the main cause in increase of TGs, hs-CRP, and anthropometric, specially in patients with mean age ≥ 50 year and BMI ≥ 50 kg/m2.
