Variability of kermes oak on psilorjtes, mountain of Crete-Greece

This study was carried out in kermes oak woodland of the Kouroutes commu-nity in the Psilorites mountain of Crete in Greece.

Five phenotypes of kermes oak were identified and described on the basis of leaf and acorn morphology.

It was found that mor-phological characteristics are not enough to identify kermes oak varieties, genetic studies should be carried out in order to find out whether such differences are inherited and, the various morphological types are not only phenotypes but also genotypes
