Experimental study for dusty plasma characteristics in a direct current system

A direct current (D.C) plasma system for produced dusty plasma was fabricated.

The vacuum chamber of this system consists from two circular electrodes discs were made from aluminum material.

The diameter of both electrodes was 8cm and of 2cm thickness.

Two kinds of dust particles (which are copper and copper oxide dust) were immersed in plasma column by using mechanical device (duster).

The dust particles size of copper and copper oxide was 145nm and 59.4 nm, respectively.

The magnetic field intensity which used to confinement of charged particles was generated by using two circular permanent magnets.

Two groups of tungsten Langmuir probes (which have a diameter was 0.3mm and tip length was 3mm) were used to study the plasma characteristics.

The plasma characteristics and its radial profiles were tested at different positions 2cm and 4cm from cathode and anode surface.

The influence of two types of dust particles on radial profile of plasma characteristics into two regions of plasma column (plasma sheath and plasma bulk) at different pressures (0.4 torr, 0.6 torr, and 0.8 torr) was investigated.

The results shows the radial profile of plasma parameters with and without both kinds of dust were non-uniform along cathode and anode electrodes in both plasma column regions.

The radial distribution of electron energy is non-uniform with and without both kinds of dust particles in un-magnetized plasma.

The density of electrons and ions are non-uniform distribution along both electrodes with and without both kinds of dust.

The effect of both kinds of dust particles on the plasma characteristics at constant pressure 0.4 torr in magnetized plasma was indicated too.

The results illustrated many features: the radial distribution of plasma parameters in the presence of magnetic field with and without both kinds of dust was non-uniform in all plasma column regions.

The presence of dust particles causes to increase negatively of plasma potential in the cathode sheath but in the anode sheath the plasma potential goes toward positive value with different rates.

The electron energy in the presence of dust in plasma sheath increases.

While, in the plasma bulk near cathode, the existence of both kinds of dust decreases the energy of electrons but increases the electron energy in the plasma bulk near anode.

The influence of both kinds of dust on the electrons and ions densities has shown the same behavior in all plasma column regions in magnetized plasma.
