A survey on the knowledge of sar-cheshmeh copper company workers about vasectomy

This cross-sectional study was carried out to determine the knowledge and attitude towards vasectomy among 350 male married workers of Sar-cheshmeh Copper Company.

Data were collected by using.

a questionnaire that had, been prepared based on the goals of the study and, its validity and reliability had been confirmed.

The mean age of Subjects Was 45.4 years (SD = 13), the mean of their education was 6.6 classes (SD = 4) the mean number of offspring born was 4.3 (SD = 2) and the mean of marriage length was 19 years (SD = 12.3).

The wives of 10.9% of these workers were employed.

Based on the results of this study 11.1% had good knowledge about vasectomy.

Most of the subjects (81.1%) showed indifferent attitude towards vasectomy and only 18% of them had positive attitude.

There were significant Relations between both knowledge and attitude towards vasectomy and age, degree of education, number of children, length of marriage and spouse occupational status.

There was, also a direct relation between knowledge and attitude and this relation was statistically significant.

Therefore by increasing the degree of men’s knowledge about vasectomy we can develop positive attitude towards this method and consequently increase the degree of men’s cooperation in family planning programs.
