This paper highlights the importance of a firm’s location as a determinant variable that affects firm’s performance within the context of emerging markets.

Using a sample of 410 Indian firms, we build a model that regresses firm performance against mainly firm location and other control variables during both crisis and normal period.

We examine two value-based measures of firm performance: market-adjusted return (RET), and market to book value (MBV).

Both measures lead to the same findings: firms headquartered in financial centers significantly outperform those headquartered elsewhere, during crisis period.

However, there is no difference in terms of performance between the two categories of firms during normal period
