Zakat is the third pillar of Islam.

It was one of the main resources for the state in the early Islamic era.

Even though Zakat is a clear obligation from Allah, many Muslims contribute with small amounts of it in comparison with their income tax payments.

One of the main reasons behind this low contribution is that most of Muslims are not aware of the obligation of Zakat and its importance.

The objective of this research paper is to detect the main factors that influence Muslims in Morocco to adopt the institution of Zakat.

In this research, a survey is used to collect data from citizens to identify their motivations toward paying Zakat to the institution.

In fact, some factors were deducted from the literature review and from the acceptance theory.

In addition, open questions were asked during the preliminary stage of the collection of data to detect other important factors within the Moroccan context.

Hence, the main constructs used in this research are religiosity, trust, voluntariness, relative advantage and results demonstrability.

A multiple linear regression method was used to run and analyze the data.

As a result, the findings show that trust, relative advanatage, and religiosity are the main factors influencing the adoption of Zakat’s institution in Morocco.
