الملخص الإنجليزي

In Morocco, cash management is quite important.

Generally, the Moroccan firms keep a large amount of cash idle or invest it in very liquid instruments without any analysis of the Moroccan market.

Indeed, an efficient cash management would enhance the performance of the firm.

In this work, we use an inventory model to determine the amount of cash to keep.

We assume that we have an initial amount of money available that we can invest in a diversified portfolio.

We need to determine the amount of cash to keep in stock, i.e.

how much to sell from the investments to replenish stock, and when to sell from the investments.

In order to demonstrate our results, we do a case study for a Moroccan manufacturing firm XYZ.

The firm has initial cash available at the beginning of each period (one year) that it will use to meet the disbursements of the period.

The firm is already following a strategy for managing cash.

The company invests portion of money into very liquid security (Mutual fund Monetary) that yield low return.

We will propose an inventory management model to balance between the cash held in hand and investments, along with a method to develop portfolio with specific criteria based on converting securities as needed as well as one year maturity.

We do our analysis for two years period (2005 and 2006).

At the end of each year, we compare our savings with that of the firm.

The savings is the amount earned from the investments of the whole period.

We assess our strategy based on a comparison between our saving with the actual saving of the firm for the two years period.
