The aim of this project has been to develop parts of the components that make up the smartcard-based Campus solutions which when fully developed will provide: 1.

Digitally signing electronic documents.

2.

Authenticating into Network Operating systems.

3.

Securing communications {email transfer, telnet etc.).

4.

Micro-payment.

5.

Controlling access to physical premises and electronic resources.

The project focuses on designing the architecture for supporting the universal card.

This latter has three main units: 1, Server-side.

2.

Client-side and 3.

Card-side^ Under each one of them, a set of components has been developed and are fully functional: 1.Server-side components: GUI was developed for administrative purposes.

It deals with: card management, security credentials management, security credentials verification, and the wallet application specific management components.

2.Client-side components: wallet application components.

3.Card-side components: the wallet credentials and the security credentials.

A strategic decision has been made to use standard components and protocols such as PKI, LDAP, and PC/SC, for the development of applications and services, and to provide APIs for ease of integration with existing legacy systems such as ERPs and enterprise information systems.
