الملخص الإنجليزي

This thesis introduces a new design of concentrated parabolic trough that can be used to generate medium temperature steam (170°-220°C).

The system is a small parabolic trough with non-evacuated tube receiver, closed with a glass cover.

The glass cover helps reducing convection heat losses from the heat collector element and boosts the heat transfer fluid’s temperature to reach the temperature level used for industrial production processes.

Both optical and thermal properties of the materials required to design the different components of the system are investigated.

A computer simulation was developed in order to run the built model of the new designed system and compare its performance to the classical Concentrated Evacuated Tube Parabolic Trough Collectors.

The results of the comparison show that closed non-evacuated concentrated parabolic trough collector’s thermal efficiency can reach up to 90% in sites with high direct incident solar radiation (>200 W/m²) and with a working fluid volume flow rate higher than 3 m²/h.
