الملخص EN

Purpose: This prospective phase 11 study presents our experience with induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy regimen in our department.

patients and methods: patients diagnosed with locally advanced squamus cell carcinoma (SCC) of the larynx and hypo pharynx who were attended from February 2010 to Aprl120l4 underwent 3 cycles of 1C at a dose of75mg/m2 docetaxel Dl, 100mg/m2 cisplatin Dl, 1000mg/m2 5-fluorouraci! D 1-4 every 3 weeks for 3 cycles followed by concurrent radiotherapy and weekly cisplatin 30mg/m2.

Results: Thirty-three patients were enrolled in the study and thirty patients completed the treatment.

The median duration of follow-up was 18 months.

The median age at diagnosis was 51 years and stage !٧ was 73%.

After sequential therapy, a complete response and partial response was seen in 9 (30%) and 12 (40%) patients respectively.

The overall response rate was 70%.

Median survival was 17 months and median progression-free survival (PFS) was 8months.

Grade 3-4 toxicity of TFF was as follow: grade 3-4 neutropenia and anemia occurred in 40% and 10% respectively.

Three patients died during 10 due to hematclogic toxicity.

Prognostic factors for response and PFS were females, non-smokers, T3& N0-1 stage and laryngeal site.

Concision: TPF induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent chemoradiotherpy showed a high response rate and long Progression-free survival in Egyptian patients with locally advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer.

significant better response and longer progression-free survival were achieved in stage 111 laryngeal carcinoma.
