الملخص الإنجليزي

Providing transportation services has become important for both the shippers, who need to transport loads of goods from one geographical location to another and the carriers, who have vehicles and can provide the service of transporting the goods to the shippers.

This can be achieved by having an open market for bidding, where the shippers and the carriers can have direct contact and can benefit from the services and the opportunities provided to each other.

Our system, which is a Multi-Agents marketplace for freight transportation provides different services.

For the shippers, it offers the best price in the market based on the “second-price auction” approach.

For the carriers, the system manages the positioning of their vehicles, analyses the possibility of adding a new load to each vehicle’s sequence of loads, and suggests a price to bid based on the current loads and positioning of their vehicles.

We expect our system to be used by many shippers and carriers; therefore, the level of complexity will increase as more interactions will take place.

We opted for a multi-agents system (MAS) because no single object can handle this level of complexity; it is more suited for online trading, and because agents are known by their autonomy, local views, decentralization, and their decision making capabilities.

Multiple intelligent agents will be interacting between each others, each with a pre-defined set of functionalities and a set of policies that will enable them to take their own decisions without any external intervention.

This system plays an intermediary role between the carriers and the shippers, and provides an optimal solution for loads’ distribution and bidding.

To assess the performance of the system and the effect of the different variables on the number of bids won by a carrier, different simulations are implemented and results are presented
