الملخص الإنجليزي

Enterococcus remains the most controversial group of lactic acid bacteria. They are part of the dominant microbiota of several dairy products and also are present in the gut of humans and animals.

Enterococci play an important role in cheese making and ripening and in the development of the typical flavor of the cheese; as result of citrate metabolism and in relation to their proteolytic and lypolitic activities.

Due to their importance as a cause of nosocomial infections, enterococci are acquiring increased significance.

Such infections are becoming more and more difficult to treat as resistance to antibiotic increases.

The aim of this work was to study the incidence of six potential virulence factors and 14 antibiotics resistance within fourty 40enterococcus isolated from traditional cheese made from goat’s milk, and to establish if the isolated strains from traditional cheese should be considered as potential pathogens.

The presence of aggregation gene agg, the surface protein gene esp, the accessory colonization factor ace, the Enterococcus feacalis specific gene efaAfs, the Enterococcus feacium specific gene efaAfm, and the gelatinase gelE gene, which are involved in the virulence of enterococci, were tested by PCR, while antibiotic resistance was tested by the disk diffusion method.

Our isolates carried virulence genes, including efaAfs (71.69%), esp (47.61%), agg (44.30%), gelE (37.73%), efaAfm (24.53%), and ace (23%).

They showed resistance to only 5 antibiotics, which almost are natural resistance.

So they represent high sensitivity to the 7 family of antibiotics.

The results clearly indicate that the enterococci isolated from traditional cheese are less pathogenic than those isolated from clinical samples.

Considering the results of our study, these strains cannot be considered the main potential source of dissemination of antibiotic resistances.
